Silly California! Our Rivers are for us!

Hey Calfornia, how about you build some desalization plants to take water from the oceans. Also, if you use sewage, you can heat it to get pure water! I have plants that need to be fed so GET OUT OF MY RIVER!!!!!!! :)

Debate
Moderator is facing audience who are sitting down.
Moderator: Thank you for taking time to watch this debate. The topic of this debate today is Shortage of Water. We have here today, some of the top representatives from California, a state that has tremendous problems with the shortage of water. Also, we have top representatives from the state of Washington which has little water shortage, but California has proposed to divert the mighty Columbia River, which could lead to major water shortage in Washington. Our representatives please.
Moderator turns around. The debaters come on stage and take their seats.
Moderator: The first topic is the Columbia River. Our first question of this night is from Mark Smith, Mark?
Mark Smith stands up.
Mark Smith: Washington, how are you protecting the Columbia River from getting too polluted?
Mark sits down.
Washington Rep. #1: Thank you for the question Mr. Smith. We obviously have a problem as we had nine nuclear reactors on the banks of the Columbia. They were decommissioned after the cold war, but now we face the largest environmental clean-up project in the world.
Washington Rep. #2: To clean up the site we’ll take the waste and make it into glass and put it in a mountain, overall pollution we’ll stop the groundwater flowing into the river by cleaning things up as soon as possible, so groundwater can’t reach the Columbia.
Moderator: Another question about the Columbia is from John Rike. John?
A#2 : California, why do you want the Columbia River. Why not use the ocean’s water, and leave Washington alone with their problems?
California Rep. #1: Thank you Mr. Rike for contributing a question. Well, California has more than 35 million people to feed and you can save more lives by diverting the Columbia. That population number doesn’t include Arizona or Vegas. So you can save even more lives.
California Rep. #2: Once again thank you Mr. Rike and we cannot use ocean water because it takes a tremendous amount of power to run a desalination plant, which puts CO2 emissions into the air, and…

Moderator: Excuse me but the question was directed at California, please don’t interrupt, we shall move on. A coin flip has decided that Washington will respond first to this question. The question is from Jonathon Benny. Jonathon?
A#2: stands up
A#2: What would be the positive and negative results if a pipe was made to transport the Columbia’s water to California?
A#2: sits down
Washington Rep. #1: There would be no positive.
Washington Rep. #2: Exactly, you are leaving citizens in Eastern Washington and Northern Oregon with no water. The Yakima another Washington River has extremely dirty water from erosion, and that little water couldn’t support the population.
Washington Rep. #1: California should build some desalination plants with all that money.
Moderator: California, what is your answer to the question asked by Mr. Benny?
California Rep. #1: Positive effects would be as we said before giving so many people water, and we aren’t wasting water if we were we wouldn’t be here right now.
Moderator: Our next topic in today’s debate is population’s toll on the amount of fresh water in the west. The question is this: What is, if any, is population’s toll on the amount of fresh water in the west? Since Washington won the previous coin flip, California, you may go first.
California Rep. #2: Population needs water California is the most populated state in the United States we could use water for more uses then Washington.
Moderator: Washington, what is your response?
Washington Rep. #1: California would waste water, so many people using so much water, look at the Colorado River what you did to that.
Washington Rep. #2: Besides you could save marine life and you could still have apples because you need water to irrigate crops.
Moderator: That leads into our next topic: salmon. Mr. Smith will be the first one to ask a question about this topic. Mark?
Mark Smith: How are salmon, in your eyes, being affected by both shortage of water and pollution of the water we have left? Washington, since many salmon’s home is in your state, I would like for you to answer the question.
Washington Rep #2: Salmon are dying, and are not reproducing well enough. For every 1000 salmons born, only 2 will make it back home as adults. Diverting the Columbia River to California would defiantly wipe out all of the salmon.
Moderator: California, your response to Washington’s response is what?
California Rep #2: Though salmon are important, humans are inventing all of the inventions that are invented today. Not salmon. Humans are more important than salmon
Our last topic for today is prevention. The first question is this: How can you prevent shortage and pollution of the water? California, you may go first.
California Rep #1: Much research is beginning to take place about how we can change ocean water into fresh water. If we finally find out a way, we would want the Columbia River a bit less, though we would still want it.
Moderator: Washington, your answer is what?
Washington Rep #1: Many people are offering to help the salmon, and we are using the many rivers we have wisely. The rivers are not receiving as much pollution as California is. All in all, we are better than California.
